Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram::

Established in the year 1952 at an obscure, remote place Jashpur, in Madhya Pradesh, the Vanavasi
Kalyan Ashram (V.K.A.) has now expanded its activities in each and every state of our country. VKA has earned the proud distinction of operating the highest no. of seva projects (7648 as on 1-3-97) conducted by any Sangh inspired organization in our country. They propose to cross the 10,000 mark by the end of 1997.
Out of a total of 276 vanavasi districts, the V.K.A currently operates in 171 districts, covering 4974 places and with dependable, active contacts established in over 20,000 villages. In addition, the V.K.A. also operates in all major cities and in 43 other non-adivasi districts. It proposes to reach each of the remaining vanavasi districts in the next two years.

A remarkable feature of this organization is that nearly 50% of their full-time workers come from the vanavasi areas (528 out of 1115). Their remarkable methodology of grooming local leadership is bound to have a snow - balling effect in fulfilling all their ambitious expansion proposals.

The V.K.A operates in all the Sevakaryakshetras i.e. Health, Education, Social organization, Economic development as well as carrying out numerous casual/need-based programs. But their major in-puts are in the field of education, development of sports, re-establishing and strengthening the blurred cultural links and weaning the vanavasi away from the evil influence of foreign missionaries, anti-social, and anti-national forces, etc. The impact of the selfless, untiring, all encompassing activities and programs are now becoming manifest in all the places where the V.K.A operates. The burgeoning demand for opening V.K.A seva projects, the growing self-reliance of the Vanavasis and financial support from all over the country are indicators of V.K.A's favorable impact.

Presently its activities are spread over in the District of Jamnagar and Kutch transcending barriers of caste, class and religion. Jankalyan samiti is a united force running scores of social, medical, educational and character building projects with dedication and selfless service. It intends to funnel in the experience and resources from various vertical, narrow band programmes into a ‘people centric’ rather than programme centric approach.Its aim is to promote and conduct activities of health care, mass Literacy, employment generation training activities, cultural and of charitable nature among the poor and the neglected brothers residing in undeveloped colonies and slums.

No one can forget the disastrous earthquake that occurred on 26th January, 2001, where Lakhs of people had to face psychological, social, economical, financial, educational and clinical problems. Amongst all, the most affected area was kutch - Bhuj District. As a helping hand to these suffered peoples our centre started a mobile medical clinic wherein our Managing Trustee - Dr. Hitesh I. Jani along with doctors of Gujarat Ayurved university, Jamnagar provided free medical service to affected victims of Kutch - Bhuj for a period of one year. At present this mobile clinic is imparting rural health program in villages of Jamnagar.

Similarly, lots of schools were also affected by disastrous earthquake 2001. So the project under the name of "School on Wheels" was carried out, where in all relevant materials such as books, toys, school bag, stationery etc were made available to children of Kutch district at their door step. In the mobile van, 2-teachers along with one driver imparted education to children, played with them at scheduled time and place of particular village selected. This project is still ongoing in district of kutch - Bhuj and the expenses are borne by our organization.

Jankalyan samiti is running a clinical center under the name of Kamdhenu clinic, known for carrying out special types of clinical treatment through natural and scientific way (panchgavya) in Motihaveli, Jamnagar. Patients are treated free of cost by the expert panel of doctor's and medicines are prepared from GAU (Cow)'s ARK ( extracts) are provided at nominal rate.

We are proud of Gujarat's one and only one committee formed by our inspiration in village Ishwarya of the Lalpur taluka under the name of "Kamdhenu Divya Aushidhi women's co-operative society". The committee prepares household medicines from the leftover of 'Gaumutra'. These would enable the women of this village to be independent enough to earn their living. This cooperative Society is also registered.
We are organizing Multimedia shows to make general people aware about the importance of cow and scientific beliefs attached to it; cow milk; cowdung; Gaumutra as well as beneficial aspects of its byproducts and its usefulness by the means of 'Kamdhenu Katha'.

1000 females were surveyed by our Field female workers, of which 500 were highly educated and professionally qualified where as the remaining 500 females were not much educated but were earning by one means or other.The overall Survey was prepared in a Multimedia form and was presented to Honbl'e Shree Kailashpati Mishraji, Honbl 'e Governor of Gujarat during his visit at Jamnagar. That lead to the foundation of our Society under the name of SABLA. As the name suggests it's the society formed only for the women, by the women and of the women. The focus areas are training, research, awareness and development.

Yugandhara Pratishthan
It's a part of Jankalyan having identity of its own and carrying out several activities focusing children and women. At present the activities carried under this are Sanskar Kendra and Bal Pustakalay for children's belonging to low socio-economic profile running successfully at Kodidango, near digjam woolen mill, Jamnagar;
C. I. D. A centre has good collection of reading materials and Hi-tech multimedia presentations for the students, learners, readers or whoever is seeking to gain more knowledge of their interests.

W.I.C.A.S. As it is rightly said that women can be the best managers if given exposure to out side world. To prove this we are in a plan of establishing a small scale industrial set-up, completely governed by female group of members who will have to be the part of this society by buying shares worth Rs.1000. As per the rules and regulations there has to be a team of at least 51 members to begin with and at the end of the year divide the profit made by them. Registration for this society is also undertaken.

Professionals in Seva:::

Seva is an integral part of our society. Today, there is a greater need for doing Seva in a professional and strategic manner so that the nation's needs are met more effectively. This is where 'Professionals In Seva' has been working."Professionals in Seva" is a team of volunteers who have set out on a mission to educate, encourage and involve the community in Seva activities and help to uplift the needy sections of the society. In this regard, various activities are conducted which help the team and the community to align ourselves and move forward to achieve the ultimate state where no needy person is left uncared by the society.

The team conduct workshops and Seva Darshan programmes are meant to EDUCATE the community about the need for Seva and its potential to transform the needy sections of the society, and ENCOURAGE them to get associated with effective Seva projects. In addition, the team sets an example for effective INVOLVEMENT by conducting activities such as Blood Donation camps, Tuitions etc.

In order to help patrons and volunteers to get first hand information about the activities of Seva Projects, ‘Seva Darshan’ – a half day tour of various projects in Bangalore is arranged on a regular basis. Interested peoples, with their families are encouraged to participate in the tour. It is an opportunity to ‘feel’ and interact with needy persons who are the beneficiaries of the Seva projects. The experience of these visits creates a very positive perception in the minds of the visitors and propels them to contribute their time in service of the needy more effectively.
The Seva Darshan programme of Jayanagar consisted of 15 persons drawn from different companies and colleges. At 2.00PM on 28th Aug 2005, participants assembled near Ragigudda temple at Jayanagar. At the beginning, the team visited 'Narendra-Nele', a rehabilitation centre for boys. There are around 60 children. Participants were excited by the warm welcome with smiling face and chanting shlokas by the boys of Nele. The coordinator of Nele detailed about their day-to-day activities and took the participants around the campus showing the facilities available for those children. Team was happy to see that each child is enjoying homely stay there with proper guidance and education by inculcating good ‘Samskaras‘ in their life. Next, the team visited a Seva Basti (slum) in Anjanappa garden near Mysore road to witness the Non Formal Education (NFE) programme conducted by Rashtrothana parishat followed by a visit to Anatha Shishu Nivasa at Basavanagudi, an orphanage centre that takes care of small children ranging from newborn kid to kids of 10 years age. More than 60 children are getting a homely stay here including 5 small babies who are kept in cradle. The children demonstrated their skills learned and disciplines taught.Finally, the team visited 'Nivedita-Nele' at Thyagarajanagar, a rehabilitation centre for girls. Around 17 children are enjoying the homely stay at this center. Nele children showed their extra curricular activities by singing patriotic songs, shlokas, group dance etc. Participants were mesmerized by seeing their performance and their active participation.Coincidentally, the team also got an opportunity to participate in the Sri Krishna Janmastami celebration at Thyagarajanagar, which was held near to 'Nivedita Nele'. 'Mosaru kudike' programme was enjoyed very much by the team.

The team dispersed after pooja and bhajan. All the participants of the Seva Darshan were impressed by the teachers of NELE, NFE and Sevavrathis of Anatha Shishu Nivasa. Some families have decided to visit the projects regularly and contribute in their own way. Some people saw Seva bastis for the first time and realized the challenges that our volunteers are facing there. Finally, everyone felt that "we can also do something" ! Similar Seva Darshan programme was organized by volunteers from Tippasandra area, where about 12 volunteers participated with their families. One fine Sunday, we, 16 of our folks from Mahalakshmipuram, set out on a different course. We visited Narendra-NELE, a home for street urchins. This project is run by Hindu Seva Pratishtana. We were greeted by curious kids with mischievous smiles on their faces. We sang bhajans with them, played games and more importantly listened to them. All the kids were trying to catch our attention with the special talents they had. One can understand the importance of parents only by looking at the orphan kids. We took the opportunity of sponsoring the lunch for the kids and also we had the lunch together with them. On our return, every one of us had a satisfaction for spending our time and money where it was needed the most. Totally, it was a gratifying experience and with the assurance that the future of these kids is in the safe hands of Narendra-NELE. You can be creative in Seva! The idea of sponsoring and having lunch with the children of the NELE was picked up by many others too.– As Narrated by a volunteer from Mahalakshmipuram
