CWS - BITS Pilani using Telecom Technology to Provide Healthcare Services
UGC Centre for Women Studies (CWS) at BITS, Pilani has joined hands with Sewa Bharti, Pilani to open new vistas for the people by inaugurating a Telemedicine Centre, first of its kind in Shekhawati Region of Rajasthan. The centre aims at delivery of health care services across distances using telecom technology.

On the occasion of 61st Independence day, Dr. L.K. Maheshwari, Vice Chancellor, BITS-Pilani who inaugurated the Centre congratulated the efforts of CWS and Sewa Bharti and mentioned “In this Digital Age, technology is being leveraged to render educational, developmental and social services. Telemedicine Center is yet another step to abridge the gap present in the rural health care sector.” Dr. Nirupama Prakash, Chief, Women Studies and Social Development Unit at BITS, Pilani claimed that the Telemedicine Center would be beneficial towards improvisation of health care accessibility, immunization drives, educating young mothers and children about hygiene and general cleanliness.
Using the software ‘Remedy Kit’ and internet technology, vital information regarding pulse rate, heart beat, blood pressure, ECG can be transferred over the broadband link from Seva Bharti to Medical Center, BITS-Pilani. The health care personnel at Medical Center will analyze and diagnose the health condition and prescribe the medicines which will be available at Seva Bharti Complex. The entire procedure will take merely 3-5 minutes.
UGC Center for Women Studies, BITS-Pilani has been functional for the past two years and is playing a prominent role in promoting humanitarian initiatives. Seva Bharti is working for the past 18 years towards social causes under the supervision of Mr. K.S Sharma. Dr. R.P Pareek, MD the Medical Superintendent of the Medical Center, BITS-Pilani has been rendering his services to this organization every Sunday for the last 10 years. Presently, 20-30 patients visit Seva Bharti weekly and this number is expected to grow now as the patients can visit for health care consultation any working day.
