Flood causes damages in four states

In Gujarat, Indian Air Force and the army have been called in to help in rescue
operations in flood-affected Surendra Nagar district. Two columns of army were pressed
into service in Lakhtar taluk where 478 mm of rainfall was recorded on Thursday. One
IAF helicopter was also used to rescue people. More than 4,500 people have been
evacuated from affected areas of Lakhtar town. Heavy rain also lashed Dhandhuka town
of Ahmedabad district. Rescue operations have been started to evacuate people living in
the low lying area of the town. The army has kept one column of personnel from the
Engineering Regiment as standby for deployment in the Dhandhuka District. Road traffic
is still disrupted on Surendra Nagar- Ahmedabad road. The railway traffic also could not
be resumed between Rajkot and Ahmedabad.
