Youth for Seva Experience the joy of sharing

Youth for Seva

Experience the joy of sharing When you see the children picking rags, sleeping on the streets, working instead of studying, newborn girl being abandoned by her parents and poor infrastructure as well as low educational standard in government schools, you must have felt “I wish I could do something?” There are some youth who wish to do something for these deprived people. But most of them do not involve in volunteering work because of three major reasons—not knowing where to start, the fear that it may be too much of responsibility and concern that it cannot be done with their limited time availability.

Youth for Seva” (YFS) is a platform that provides answer to all these questions. Formed in April 2007 to fill this gap so that youth with an intention to volunteer and with different time commitments can easily find meaningful opportunities to serve the deprived people. Youth for Seva is a project of Hindu Seva Pratishthan, a well-established voluntary organisation in Karna…

An experiment of economic empowerment by Sewa Bharati in Jharkhand

By Maya Singh The experiment of Self-Help Group (SHG) by Sewa Bharati proved a major success in the remote areas of Jharkhand. Presently, there are over 1400 SHGs in the state run by Sewa Bharati activists. Every group normally has 15-20 women. This number goes over 25,000. Today, these women are writing a new chapter of change after achieving self-respect and self-dependence with the help of SHGs.

SHGs have brought about a sea-change and awareness among the women who are mostly illiterate. They not only developed the feeling of taking group decisions but also to get rid themselves of the clutches and atrocities of private moneylenders. They not only changed their own life but also extended a helping hand to the needy persons of the society. Women of a similar group in Ranchi helped in eye operation of a minor child at Shankar Eye Hospital in Chennai. The women in the group of Meera, Rani and Neetu make bari, papar, pickle, spices, jute bags, etc. Arati, Anuradha and Sanyukta impart tr…

My Wish by AMANDEEP (blogger)

SOURCE: Amandeeps's Blog
Today I experienced a sense of complete peace and serenity through the eyes of a 17 months old girl, Swechchha -- my wish...
I entered the room in Matri Chhaya that was reserved for the older children, or "bade bachche" as they called them. These older children turned out to be babies in the age group of 7-12 months. With the exception of Swechchha who, at 17 months, sat amongst them feeding herself a pomegranate with the incredible expertise of a grown up. She looked at me, I smiled, she smiled back and instantly I knew a bond was formed!
Matri Chhaya is an institute of the Sewa Bharti trust and provides a home to homeless infants -- lost, disowned and orphaned babies. People leave babies in a cradle outisde the home, ring the bell and disappear, and they are welcomed in the Matri Chhaya family, looked after and are adopted by childless couples.
I visited this place today and met the babies. There were three rooms with cradles lined against the wal…
