RSS service projects expand manifold

The service projects being run by RSS swayamsevaks across the country under different banners have registered a phenomenal growth. The total number of service projects has been accounted as 1,57,776 as on March 31. It includes 59,498 projects of education, 38,582 projects of health, 42,304 projects of social and 17,392 projects of self-reliance. According to the latest edition of Seva Disha 2009, the report of RSS service activities published from Pune after every five years, a total of 59,076 service projects are run by Rashtriya Sewa Bharati, 13,969 projects by Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, 72,370 by Vishwa Hindu Parishad, 461 by Rashtra Sevika Samiti, 9,682 by Vidya Bharati, 1,000 by Deendayal Research Institute and 168 projects are run by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. West is paying for wastage - Sitaram Kedilaya

“If you wish to stay fit, move to the villages. People in the urban areas are in the grip of consumerism, which attracts the villagers too. That is why both the rural and urban people are afflicted with many diseases. Instead of following our rich traditions we are blindly following the West. It will take us nowhere,” said Akhil Bharatiya Sewa Pramukh of RSS Shri Sitaram Kedilaya. He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of Arogya Bharati national convention held in Bhopal on July 5. National president of Arogya Bharati Dr Raghvendra Kulkarni, Health Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shri Anup Mishra, Minister of State for Forest Shri Rajendra Shukla and Shri Raghunandan Deshpande, MP, also addressed the delegates. More than 100 doctors belonging to various streams of medicine provided information to the delegates about health activities being undertaken in their respective areas.

Social activist dead: Surinder Bhandari (62), general secretary, Sewa Bharti, died on July 13 after prolonged illness. Surinder was a renowned social worker who, despite his illness, devoted time to distribute free medicines among poor patients at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. He is survived by his wife and two sons and a daughter. He will be cremated on July 15 at Shiv Puri near Durgiana temple at 12 noon.(Source the Daily Tribune)
