600 students of special schools attended ‘Vishishtarigagi Vishishta Mela’ Special children’s day out in City

It was a children’s day out in Canara High School (Main) campus premises. It had all that required for a kid to make happy.
A little giant-wheel, slides, merry-go-round, kite flying, games, demonstration on fire, a small exhibition, cultural programmes... But there was a difference. The kids who participated in this fair were all special.

About 600 students of special schools and their parents and teachers of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts had come to attend the ‘Vishishtarigagi Vishishta Mela’ organised  by Asha Jyothi, a Forum for the Challenged and their parents (A unit of Seva Bharathi) at Canara High School in the City on Sunday.

source: organiser Over 1200 workers representing 600 service organisations of the country attend Sewa Sangam in Bengaluru "SERVICE needs to be done without expecting anything in exchange. The God gives us everything we need in our life but He never expects anything from us. We too should serve the society in the similar way without expecting anything from those who are being served," said Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Guruji while inaugurating the Sewa Sangam at Nitte Meenakshi College, Yelahanka in Bengaluru on February 6.

More than 1200 workers representing over 600 service organisations attended the Sangam. Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev and RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat also addressed the gathering in different sessions. The Sewa Sangam provided a platform to delegates for interaction and to review the work being done as well as to formulate the future plan of action.

A bright but shy looking young boy of 9, I walked into while I was visiting Shanti Niketan—a free hostel run by Sewa Bharati Himachal Pradesh in the panoramic Dadsai, some 100 kms off Shimla, stunned me when he revealed that it was his first bus ride of life and that he had never seen a bus before he boarded one for Dadsai. He had to walk some 20 kms down the hills to hit the road for boarding a bus. “Am I living in 1908 or am I in 2008,” I pinched myself before I believed the boy. How the hell this young boy missed the buzz of modernity, leave alone missing the first look at a “bus”.

However, for a change, the boy had arrived in the hostel and was admitted to the nearby school and that assured me of his future. That brought me to some more prodding on my part. How does someone reach the remotest village to pick up this boy? Who did the job and how did this person convince the villagers that the boy would be taken care of and get educated? Why the pa…

Sewa Sangam in Bengaluru from February 6

Source: Organiser RASHTRIYA Sewa Bharati is organising a three-day Sewa Sangam in Bengaluru from February 6 to 8. About 1500 senior leaders of various organisations involved in service activities all over the country will gather to discuss various ways and means to strengthen the service network in the country. The meeting will be inaugurated by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Guruji of the Art of Living and former RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri KS Sudarshan. RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat will also interact with the workers during the Sangam. RSS Sarkaryavah Shri Suresh Rao Joshi will address the concluding ceremony. According to Akhil Bharatiya Sewa Pramukh of RSS Shri Sitaram Kedilaya, the workers would discuss the methodology to strengthen coordination between the service organisations working for the uplift of weaker sections of the society. They will also discuss how one organisation can help others.

Mass marriage ceremony in Jharkhand

At least 150 couples tied the nuptial knot at a mass marriage ceremony that was recently held in Jarkhand's Pakur district.
The ceremony organised at Pakol village saw the participation of community leaders who came to bless the couples.
The couples were offered wedding attire by the Sewa Bharti Society, after which they were married with traditional rituals.
According to the organizers, the event was organized to provide stability to their relationships, by marrying them according to traditional rituals.
Ram Lakhan Shroff, State Secretary of the Sewa Bharti Society said: "The Aadim tribal community is fighting for their identity and events like these go far into integrating them into mainstream society.
"Last year we got 125 couples married; this year the number has been increased to 150. We provide them with all the facilities. We provide required clothes to men and women, and also all kind of cosmetics for the women," Shroff ad…
