At least 150 couples tied the nuptial knot at a mass marriage ceremony that was recently held in Jarkhand's Pakur district.

The ceremony organised at Pakol village saw the participation of community leaders who came to bless the couples.

The couples were offered wedding attire by the Sewa Bharti Society, after which they were married with traditional rituals.

According to the organizers, the event was organized to provide stability to their relationships, by marrying them according to traditional rituals.

Ram Lakhan Shroff, State Secretary of the Sewa Bharti Society said: "The Aadim tribal community is fighting for their identity and events like these go far into integrating them into mainstream society.

"Last year we got 125 couples married; this year the number has been increased to 150. We provide them with all the facilities. We provide required clothes to men and women, and also all kind of cosmetics for the women," Shroff added.

Mass marriages are becoming very popular, especially among the economically backward sections of Indian society. (ANI)
