Sewa bharati: Houses handed over to rain-hit victims,

Karwar: Twelve houses were built under the Dharmasthala Rural Development Project for the families that were destructed because of rain at Bhithkol near Karwar port. These houses were handed over to the respective families by Deputy Commissioner Amaranarayana during a formal function that was recently organized.

Municipal president Ganapati Ulvekar, district project director Boodappa Gowda and planning Officer Keshav Devang were present on the occasion.

The DC thanked the project management and informed that 50 houses were being built by Seva Bharati Trust for the landslide victims of Zariwada-Kadwad and was almost nearing completion. These houses would be handed over to the affected families soon.

Monsoon delays rehabilitation work

Karwar: Though the monsoon season has entered the district, it has failed to bring cheer among the displaced. Reason, the displaced are still waiting anxiously to enter their new houses, which the State Government had assured of completing the project much earlier.

It may be recalled that under of families residing at Zariwad in the taluk were rendered homeless after land slide during the moth of October, 2009. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa who had visited the spot had assured to constructing new houses for the displaced at a higher and safer place. Though eight months have rolled down, the housing project is yet to be completed.

Now, gruel centres and relatives house are the only places where the displaced are residing.

During the initial stage, the State Government had identified three acre land at Bekkinkere to construct houses for the displaced.

The AP, Karnataka floods of Oct 2009 have spread havoc and the villages affected have not been able to get up and stand again. Though there have been immense help that poured into these affected areas very little went into long term self sustaining. Seva Bharathi with support from SEWA International USA has taken up a Mobile dispensary and a community development center project. The villages have lost their basic infrastructure that is the immediate need. Lot of the men, women and children are suffering from infections and skin related ailments, apart from body pains due to water borne diseases. Seva Bharathi has been providing medical help and at the same time trying to educate and support a clean drinking water campaign. Most of the villages have lost their water supply mechanism as well as are being displaced to a safe place. Seva Bharti criticises tax on Shri Amarnath Langars

UDHAMPUR : A meeting of Seva Bharti was held on Sunday at Udhampur under its President M.S Sumbria in which the participants expressed great resentment over the government’s biased policy of imposing tax of Rs 25,000 for establishing a free Langar for the pilgrims of Shri Amarnath Shrine. They further criticised charging of Rs 2,400 from the trucks carrying ration and other Yatra connected goods.
Sumbaria appealed to the government to abolish the undue taxes on pilgrimage failing which the people will come on the roads and hold protests throughlut the State.
Prominent among those present include Sat Pal Sallal, Dharamvir Gupta, R.C Gupta, Neelam Nargotra, Bansi Lal Gupta, Gopal Krishan and Mohinder Singh

RSS swayamsevaks take up rescue operation at Mangalore air crash site

KARNATAKA witnessed its worst ever air mishap on May 22 when an Air India Express Boeing 737 flight carrying 169 passengers on board overshot the runway while landing at Bajpe airport at Mangalore and got burst into flames. The flight was coming from Dubai. It was a cloudy Saturday morning with heavy rains. The mishap resulted in the death of 158 passengers including the crew members.

The rescue operation was not an easy task at the site as it was little rural and with forest area. With the fire brigade personals and emergency staff, the local public especially the RSS swayamsevaks involved themselves in the rescue operation. The Sangh volunteers extended timely help during the day long rescue operation at the air crash site.
