Construction work to begin on Monday

BIJAPUR: Sites will be handed over to donors on Monday to construct houses in 32 villages which faced the flood havoc and are scheduled to shift to new places in the district, said district in-charge minister Govind Karjol.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, he said, "I personally visited Ukumanal and Kotyal villages on Saturday evening and inspected the facilities provided. Land has been developed for 32 new villages, for the remaining 10 villages land will be acquired shortly by providing basic facilities like roads, electricity and water, he said.

The donors who came forward to construct new houses provided by the government signed a memorandum of understanding with the government are Seva Bharati Trust, Adi Chunchanagiri Math, Suttur Math, Essar Groups. A letter has been dispatched to these donors to take possession of land for construction purpose. All of them will commence construction work from Monday, he said.

The remaining land will be purchased within a month. He said land has been developed at Kotyal village for construction of 477 houses and at Ukumanal village for construction of 313 houses.

Overall 592 acres of land is required for this purpose, of that 459 acre of land has been purchased for construction of houses in new villages, he said. The state government has spent nearly Rs 17 crore for purchase of land to shift the old villages which were affected by the flood fury. ZP CEO K H Kakanur was present at the press meet.
