In a bid to lend a helping hand to the family of a braveheart who sacrificed his life in the line of duty in an encounter with militants on May 2 in Kishtwar district, Punjab-based NGO Sewa Bharti has expressed its willingness to help the family with the marriage ceremony of the slain soldier’s younger sister.

It may be recalled here that
ever since the Army had launched a search operation a fortnight ago,
which led to a fierce gun battle on May 2 near Palmar, Noor Hussain, a
decorated soldier of 159 Territorial Army, had postponed the marriage of
his younger sister Kulsoma Bano to May 15.
After going through
The Tribune yesterday, the Punjab-based NGO decided to help Hussain’s family solemnise the marriage of Kulsoma Bano.
However, Hussain’s family has now rescheduled Kulsoma’s marriage and the date hasn’t been finalised as yet.
“After
going through The Tribune, we want to
help this family with the marriage of this girl who lost her
brother, a brave soldier of the Army,” said Satpal Arora, founder member
and chairman of Sewa Bharti.
The
NGO will provide gifts worth Rs 40,000, blankets, clothes, sweets and
help the family arrange other requirements of the marriage,
said Arora.
We would definitely come to Kishtwar to help the family, he added.
He
said Sewa Bharti, which is based in Kotkapura in Faridkot district of
Punjab, has so far helped 310 girls in their marriages in the past 10
years.
Besides solemnising marriages, the NGO also provides financial help of Rs 5,000 each to at least 50 widows every year.
It has also opened a school for children living in slums in Bathinda.
A
decorated soldier, Hussain had been part of the Indian Army during a UN
mission at Lebanon from November 14, 2008, to September 14, 2009.
Belonging
to a poor
family, Hussain had been enrolled in the 159 Infantry Battalion
(Territorial Army) (Home and Hearth) Dogra on January 14, 2004.
