#SewaVibhag of RSS conducts 1.60 lakh service activities across country: Bhayyaji Joshi
Lucknow, Oct 21: Service to the needy is ingrained in working style of Rashtriy Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the help being extended to flood-affected people of Jammu and Kashmir by the RSS swayamsevaks is an example of this attitude of RSS, said Suresh alias Bhayyaji Joshi here.
Joshi was addressing the media persons following the three-day conclave of RSS Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal (ABKM) that concluded on Sunday here.
He said that RSS swayamsevaks are running 1.60 lakh service projects across the length and breadth of the country catering to the needs of Dalits, backwards, and forest-dwellers living in utter poverty, distress and neglect by the society.
Drawing attention to the problem of environment pollution he underlined that the problem was serious and the RSS would concentrate on generating awareness among the masses about water conservation and plantation through different programs.
Commenting on the political change in the country he said that people of India have shown to the world how alive they are to the political situation. He congratulated the people for expressing their ability to take a proper decision at the proper time.
The previous government was not pursuing the pro-people policies and as such people were striving for change. The RSS appealed for 100 per cent voting to bring that change in an effective way, he added.
He agreed to the fact that some people criticise RSS due to ignorance about the organisation. But the society at large does not hold this view about us, he said adding that the growing acceptability of RSS amongst the youth is indicative of popular support to its ideology.
Joshi said that this year 1.25 lakh youth participated in the RSS prathamik shiksha vargs all over the country. The network of RSS shakhas is spreading in every nook and corner of the country and that the RSS welcomes all those other than Hindus who wanted to join the shakha, the RSS General Secretary said.
In response to a question he said that Sangh intended to organise the Hindu society. When asked to define Hindu, he said RSS considered all those who prefer to be called as Hindus irrespective of their religious practices.
Explaining the RSS concept of rural development the RSS leader said that village people should prepare their own development schemes in accordance to their needs. Government can facilitate these schemes. Each village should have a school, dispensary, clean environment, no discrimination at social level, and an amicable atmosphere. All requirements of the village should be fulfilled locally and cottage industries should be allowed to flourish. This is the village development model of RSS, he said.
Underlining the role of government in a society the RSS leader said that government should care for security, and safeguard public interest. But the society must work for its development and progress on its own. The initiative to remove all the outdated customs and rituals and march towards the cohesive society should come from the society. For this the society should not depend on the government.
In response to a question on Ram temple at Ayodhya, Bhayyaji Joshi said that the temple has already been there and regular puja was also being conducted. Now, the only thing to be done is to renovate that existing temple and reconstruct it in a grand scale. The present government has mentioned their commitment to resolving this issue and we should give time to them, he added
