Coming soon: Film on woman’s right to be safe
The 15-minute film My Wish, My Honour is slated for release by December 25 and is directed by (right) Neetu Narayan
The recent sexual assaults on minors in Bengaluru schools have inspired a few like-minded individuals in Mangaluru to create a 15-minute film in English called My Wish, My Honour.

With this film, Neetu Narayan debuts as a director. She is an Economics Honours graduate from Benaras Hindu University, Varanasi, and also holds a Masters in Mass Communication from the School Of Communication, Manipal.

She told Bangalore Mirror, "It all began with an idea from Dr U V Shenoy, a paediatrician who is also the trustee of Chethana Special School. He wanted something to be presented when he goes for talks and debates. I was not very confident in the beginning, but decided to write the story. Once the story was written, I showed it around and many suggested that since I am passionate about it, I must go ahead and transform it into a movie. Manek Mascarenhas, who made his debut with the Kannada short film Chitra recently, also guided me."

Neetu Narayan worked as a sub-editor for two years with an English daily in Mangaluru and was associated with Press Association, UK, as production journalist for a brief period. She said, "The short film speaks of the need for women to stand up for their right to be safe. This is portrayed through the lives of three female protagonists, whose responses are dissimilar, yet age appropriate. The film is in the post-production stage and is all set for release by Dec 25.

To be dubbed in Kannada

"We will be reaching out to schools and colleges and soon, it will be dubbed into Kannada and Tulu.

"The movie should be an eye opener that women can take care of themselves and not wait for miracles to happen or for someone to lend a helping hand. It also touches on how special children must protect themselves."

The film is being produced by Seva Bharathi in association with Sri Productions.
