#Sewabharati - RSS opens #telemedicine unit in Imphal

Dec 7, 2014,
Imphal: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) opened a telemedicine unit at its Nagamapal Seva Bharati office complex here on Saturday.

It is being dubbed as a major endeavour of the Sangh Pariwar as part of its healthcare programme in the northeast.

Sangh chief Mohan Bhagawat is presently in Delhi to attend Sheetasammelan on Sunday.
RSS joint general secretary Krishna Gopal Sharma inaugurated the unit in the presence of a number of swayamsevaks.

A team of medical and technical experts from Jharkhand and West Bengal have been engaged in the unit, the first-of-its kind in the northeast set up by the RSS. The new unit would help develop the healthcare system in the state, Krisha Gopal said. He added that experts will be here to serve the people.

As part of the programme, RSS also organized free medical camps for three consecutive days beginning Monday at Khangbok in Thoubal district, Nambol in Bishnupur and Nagamapal in Imphal West, the programme coordinator and a key Sangh Pariwar functionary Babul Kumar Jha, told TOI.

Over a 1000 patients have received treatment in the camps manned by five specialized doctors from Kolkata, Bhopal and Delhi, said Babul.

Programme co-coordinator Jeevan Abhiram Ningthou said some patients have started visiting the unit.

Besides the health sector, the Sangh Pariwar has also taken up different education and career-oriented programmes in the northeast, including 'Psychological Mapping Test', (PMT) for students from Classes VI to X.

"The PMT is a scientific study to ascertain the young students' bent of mind and their feasible career options," Babul said. He added that altogether 1,500 students of Assam, Tripura and Manipur have already enrolled in the first phase of the programme.

Those who went through the process will be given training in their respective disciplines, he added. Babul said the second phase of the programme would be started from January 10 next year in Nagaland, Mizoram and Meghalaya.
