Glimpse of Activities of SEWABHARTI J&K

Lack of education among parents, economic poverty running in families for ages etc., are some of the reasons for a large number of children to dropout before they reach their eighth class. Children are forced to earn livelihood for their families. To address these problems, which erode the roots of a healthy social structure, Sewa Bharti J&K educational sector has opened many educational opportunity programs and facilities as:

Balwari Kendras for tiny tots.

Bal Sanskar Kendras for children from 6 - 12 years, we run these Kendras where in addition to guidance in academic courses (by giving tuitions after school hours), they are acquainted with our rich Sanskars.

Ekal Vidhyalayas are single teacher schools where local youth teach children of their localities. This gives the employment to the local unemployed youth and creates dependable student teacher relationship and an atmosphere of mutual trust.

Adult Education Programs: In our Adult Education Centers education is imparted to those adult women who for some reasons were unable to study during early years of their lives. This help them to be educated and look after their families children properly.

Velji Vishram Popat Hostal for Boys (Disha) at Kadmal Katra: A hostel has been constructed at Kadmal Katra where the children from remote backward areas or from economically backward families or whose parents where killed or tortured by terrorists or whose families have faced the wrath of the natural disaster or calamities have been admitted. At present number of inmates irrespective of their religious, ethnic or regional background is 40. They came from areas like Leh, Poonch, Kashmir, Reasi, etc. We take care of their basic needs like education, food, their school fees and other relevant needs. We also acquaint them the rich Sanskars of our country.

Bajaj Sewadham Girls Hostel (Disha) at Jammu: In order to mitigate the problems faced by girl students who come all the way from Ladhak region for studies in Jammu, we have created a hostel at Talab Tillo, Jammu. The desirous inmates of the hostel are in addition given free computer software application training at our AIIT.

Shri Janak Madan hostel for girls at Pouni chak, Jammu: We have constructed the hostel exclusively for girls studying in classes from 1st std. to 10th std. at village Pauni chak, Jammu. We take care of their basic needs like education, food, their school fees and other relevant needs.

Book Banks: We have created 28 book banks where students passing on to next higher classes deposit books pertaining to their earlier classes and in return get books for their new classes. By this way we inculcate in students the spirit of helping each other.

Scholarships: Depending upon the merits, availability of the funds and on the recommendation of the specified committee, we distribute scholarships to intelligent and needy students for prosecution of their studies without any hitch.

Computer Software Application Courses (CSAC): We have six computer educational software application centers spread over J&K state, one each at Srinagar, Leh, Ramban, Katra and two at Jammu, where students are exposed to computer software application courses so as to make them self-sufficient and self-dependent. These courses taught in the centers are similar to the courses taught in Govt. Poly-technique colleges. Our students have got placed in many good organizations. We teach hardware courses in the centers as well.

Counseling for Youth: For overall development of youth Sewa Bharti holds counseling classes on ever Saturday afternoons. Students are made to take part in debates and seminars and in interactive sessions to develop the latent leadership qualities in them.

Health is certainly the main target of modern life style. Prohibitive medical treatment and unaffordable medicines have added to this problem. It is a multiple activity field in which Sewa Bharti J&K health sector try to cover as many areas as possible to reach out to poor and needy people.

A full-fledged Neurotherapy center/health clinic (where a diseases is treated without medicines), has been functioning in Leh from the past some years and has rendered commendable service to the patients who sought the treatment.

We have many ambulances to carry patients and their attendants within the city or outside the state at bare minimum charges. One ambulance is particularly for carrying dead bodies along with the attendants at odd hours, within or outside the city or state.

Niramaya (May I Help You):
Sewa Bharti has started a “May I help you?” counter at OPD casualties/Emergency ward of the Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu where voluntary services are available for guidance and health information.

This project is an agriculture research, development and demonstration project. The aim is to acquaint the farmers with the latest scientific developments in agriculture to reap maximum benefits; to educate the farmers to be less dependent on the chemical fertilizers and instead use more of organic fertilizers; and above all, to arrest the migration of the rural youth to cities and metros in search of jobs by selling their precious ancestral land holdings, by education them about the benefits they can reap through the proper unitization of their lands.

This project has been conceived to create vocational training centers for the wards especially females of the migrant Kashmiri families who live in camps at various places in and around Jammu city. The centers are being created under this project in addition cater to the needs of local population living near to these camps also.

Sewa Bharti Jammu has started self-help groups for rural women. These women are guided and helped to get registered for obtaining financial assistance and other facilities for different activities they undertake to augment their family income. This enables them to earn their livelihood, utilize their spare time, and enhance their skills, besides live with dignity.

In our endeavor to acquaint our youth and children towards social evils like femicide, drug addiction, dowry, and pollution so as to awaken them to social responsibilities. In this direction, we draw the attention of public towards these social evils “Nuked Nataks” held by children of our Bal Sanskar Kendras.

Realizing the danger, our good earth is fraught with owing to pollution and global warming; Sewa Bharti undertakes plantation programs every year in which the children are the main participants. It fulfills the purpose of plantation, and settles down the feeling of responsibility towards environment in the impregnable minds.

Social functions:
Religious and national festivals are the occasions which should be celebrated together in a society. We celebrate these functions with the children of the slums and backward areas. This brings smiles on their faces (which in such society is usually absent), gives peace to our eyes and it helps to build a society where brotherhood and equality is the main aim.

We encourage our members and patrons to spare a handful of grains each time they cook, for their poor and less fortunate or downtrodden brethren.

Bajan Mandalis:
Presently, we have 8 bhajan mandalis active at different places in Jammu city.
