Working round the clock, racing against time, the volunteers traveled the worst-hit villages in remote districts of Nepal for the distribution of emergency relief to the quake survivors.

The initial phase of the relief campaign has been wrapped up covering districts like Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Dhading, Kabhrepalanchok, Lalitpur, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Ramechhap, Sindhupalchok, Dolakha, Khotang, Okhaldhunga, Makawanpur, Sindhuli, Chitwan, Syangja, Gulmi etc. The needs there were incredible; however the volunteers coordinated well to meet them

Future Plans for the quake-victims: The need for rehabilitation services in Nepal is immense. In response to the need to develop rehabilitation services, Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh NEPAL and other partner organizations in "Mahabhukamp Rahat Abhiyan" have planned to: 1. Make provisions for the affected children by launching 'Aama Ko Maya Chhatravas' (आमाको माया छात्रावास) to provide them with food, shelter, education, sanskar etc. 2. To prov…

'Sewadham' promoting harmony between North Eastern States and the rest of India

Image
Every now and then we come across the news of discrimination against the residents of North Eastern States from different cities of India. After every such incident, some organizations will stage protest just to grab the attention of media.
But only few genuinely come forward to stop discrimination against the North Eastern people. Sewadham Vidhya Mandir, a school run by Sewa Bharti is one such institution which is working for reducing gaps between North Eastern States and remaining India since 1988. Located on the border of North East Delhi and Loni, Sewadham Vidhya mandir provides free education from class 6th to 12. Fifty percent of the seats in the school are reserved for the students from North East states and the remaining for the students from rest of the nation.
“The school is running on donations alone. Even the five acre land for this residential school was donated to the institution. Our main objective is to completely develop underprivileged, neglected and tribal students…

Nepal Earthquake: Relief Report & Rehab Plans
The disastrous earthquake on 25th April caused widespread devastation in at least 12 districts of Nepal and some parts of Bharat. It is believed that more than 15000 people have been killed by the earthquake though there are opinions of higher number of casualties. Thousands of houses have been destroyed in the mountainous districts of Nepal while Voluntary organizations from within Nepal and outside Nepal are serving the affected, together with Nepal and Indian Army, International NGOs are all involved in serving the people. Several Mandirs & Muths and heritage buildings of archaeological importance have been destroyed in different parts of Nepal including Kathmandu. These include Patan Krishna Mandir, Patan Darbar Square, Basantpur Hanuman Dhoka Darbar square, Bhaktapur Darbar square, Taleju Mandir. The loss of historical and culturally important Bhimsen Dharahara 9storey tower is probably the worst loss. The volunteers of Hindu Swa…

I am on a volunteer trip to Nepal since Monday(May 11), working for Sewa International, assisting with the earthquake relief efforts there, but I must say, I wasn't prepared to what I experienced yesterday.
We were distributing relief materials to people/children of Palathi Village in Barahbisse in district Sindhupalchok when suddenly, we heard the ominous sound of earth shaking and quite literally, earth sank from the feet below. We could immediately see the cracks appearing the loose soil below and ran for cover. There was panic and mayhem all over as everyone was trying to come to terms with the second major earthquake in just 17 days. Luckily, most of the village people/children were in the open ground with us to pickup relief materials averting a major human catastrophe.

12/05/2015
we went for a relief package distribution to Palathi village (near Chinese border) in Sindhupalchok district. We picked the relief materials like blankets, tarpaulins, biscuits/cookies from our storage point at Barahbisse and reached Palathi village ground, which is an open area with loose soil flanked by mud hill, at around 12:30 pm. We were pleasantly surprised to see local Member of Constituenct Assembly, Mr.Mohan Bahadur Basnet also present at the venue to help with the distribution process. Distribution process was started and going on fine..
But,then the Earth started shaking.
At 12:56, while we were busy distributing the relief material and talking to the local villagers to understand the current situation,Earth shook violently with a damning sound. We could see the earth splitting with fissures appearing on the loose soil. There was considerable hue and cry as many of them were reliving 04/26 all over gain. But,we along with the whole village who had come come to collec…

Saluting the Spirit of volunteerism by #HSSNepal

The spirit of Swayamsevak
With every passing day in Nepal, my admiration for the dedication of the HSS Swayamsevaks with which they are serving the earthquake affected grows many times. I am watching a batch of 20 Swayamsevaks who were at the airport receiving relief material and transporting the same to Gaushala- the storage place. They were doing the task all through yesterday. The same batch of Swayamsevaks again attended another flight coming from Delhi last night and transported 30 Metric Tons of relief material that includes mainly rice, tarpaulins, ready to cook food, and sundry items till 4-00AM morning today, it was three truckloads of material. I visited the Gaushala this noon to find the same batch of volunteers loading the material to smaller trucks for transportation to various distribution sites. There are no paid coolies to load & unload the rice sacks or packs of Tarpaulins. Most of the Swayamsevaks are college students and youth. The job is thankless and they do no…

Heart touching Contentment from Nepali Earthquake Victims : #Sewabharati

We decided to travel to places unreached till this date in Sindhupalchok district. The target was Thakani group of villages as well as the far flung Maathi group of villages. A group of villages under a panchayat is called Gavisa here and this is the last administrative unit in Nepal. A batch of volunteers reached Thakani and had to return as it was already sunset while the other batch ventured beyond to reach out to Maathi where people from 6 villages had gathered even late in the evening for receiving relief material.
We had a surprise experience in one of the hamlets of Thakani Gavisa. People gathered around the vehicle and demanded the material telling that their village has not received the material as yet. The relief material truck had Rice, Chivda, tarpaulins, medicine, torch lights and everything loaded. However the villagers were content to demand just the tarpaulins and told that they do not need anything else for the time being, understanding the need of people in higher ran…

Charghare Gavisa, Nuwakote district receives Aid #SewaBharati Volunteers

Trust generates more Trust

Natives of Charghare Gavisa, Nuwakote district resorted to public agitation on the road. The protest stopped the traffic on the road for hours. The villagers had not received any relief material for almost 9 days after the earthquake.

A group of volunteers who were traveling along the route and had to stop, met the protestors and calmed them down with a promise that they would be back within 24 hours. The villagers were delighted to find the group back in village next day morning with relief material. A pracharak of HSS Teerthraj Khanal led this group and distributed the material.
The district Superintendent of Police Sobodh Ghimire applauded the efforts by talking to Teerthraj on phone and guided him to more such places.

One of the beneficiaries in Charghare Gavisa, Nuwakote was a widow with 9 children who had to take shelter beneath a bunyan tree. All the 10 of them lived without food for almost 9 days. The lady and her kids returned to village after some pe…
