A programme on sharing of experience by swayamsevaks in Chennai Floods disaster was organized in Sakthi Karyalaya today.Representatives of centres across Chennai, Pondicherry, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore narrated the memorable experience on ground in rescue and rehabilitation work.Shri Mohan Bhagwat is on an official organizational two-day tour in Chennai. WORKSHOP on importance of Community Service BY SEWA BHARTI

A workshop was conducted by a resource person of SEWA BHARTI, one of the largest NGO of India. It was held on December 8th 2015 in the auditorium for the students of Class- XI. The main objective of the workshop was to sensitize the students about the importance of service to mankind.A twelve-minute video was shown to the students of SUPW club about the various kind of activities conducted by the NGO such as tailoring, computer education, providing medical aid to the needy, coaching classes to 10+2 students etc. The children were made aware of the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility in contemporary times. This was followed by question-answer round. The resource person also gave magazines to the students about their NGO and invited them to participate in the activities performed by the NGO.Ashima Arora

Volunteers from Seva Bharathi Tamil Nadu jumped into action and started relief activities in affected areas providing food (see table below), transporting people, providing counseling etc.
During the second phase of relief activity, volunteers engaged themselves in relief and rescue operations at various places of Chennai. Thousands of houses are marooned and the communication has come to a standstill. Of the 75 Sewa relief centers, 14 centers were designated as base centers. Food was prepared and distributed involving many volunteers and their families from these base centers.
Volunteers in co-ordination with NDRF and Armed personnel, are helping in rescue operations in Mudhichur, Mannivakkam. More than 100,000 food packets/meals, nilavembu kashayam, and counseling was provided to the public including to 8 villages nearby Chromepet.

Sewa USA Delivers 150 Handmade Scarves and Blankets to Women’s Shelters

NOVEMBER 20, 2015 – On the occasion of Diwali – the Hindu festival of lights – Sewa USA delivered 150 hand-knit scarves and baby blankets to Chicago-based women’s shelters.

Sewa USA launched the Knit for Sewa drive in August. Sixty people from 15 states participated in the drive by knitting and mailing in their handmade items. Participants included knitting novices as well as experts and ranged from the ages of 10 to 75. In some families, mothers and grandmothers used this project as an opportunity to teach their children the art of knitting and crochet.
Indira Kathavate, from Chicago, said she enjoyed learning new patterns just for the sake of giving the best gift possible. Knit for Sewa provided an opportunity to practice a fun hobby while also helping someone in need.

Seema Naik, from Washington DC, said she became motivated to learn crochet after hearing about Knit for Sewa.

Incessant rains and floods in chennai have thrown the life of people in chennai to a nightmare. Swayamsevaks are toiling day and night and extending their help to rescue and relief operations.

A team of allopathy and Siddha Doctors of National Medicos Organization, Arogya Bharati volunteered themselves for serving medical assistance to the flood affected people in chennai.

The Floods in Tamil Nadu have been devastating and the worst affected are the northern districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram. Sevabharathi, hereby, requests and appeals one and all to help and support the victims of the unprecedented rain. It has been termed as the heaviest in over 100 years
The toll in the devastating floods has reached over 190. More than 2500 villages are badly affected and 60 percent of the capital city Chennai is under water. Thousands of families are still stranded and awaiting help in their homes across the state.
